Instant Result With a Regular client
I just wanted to share a very recent story with one of my current clients. The client is targeting some competitive areas with lots of keywords. The website has 100+ pages, it's an electrician website but the provides lots of services and they have many brand dealerships. Long story short, they're my client for the last 4 months. We are applying our monthly strategy according to our template, then the previous month suddenly I saw some keywords decreased.
We are doing so well since we started work, but that month we got something that was not as usual, and the client was upset.
Then last month, most of the keywords started showing movements, a lot of new keywords started ranking + their Google business profile received almost 76% extra phone calls, (according to the GBP insights), I have compared the google search console over last 28 days vs previous 28 days and you know, I saw there are great movements.
Many keywords that decreased started ranking again, and a lot of new keywords received 400 - 500% impressions than the previous month, just imagine.
I know everyone would love to know what I did exactly to earn this kind of results though, within a few weeks only.
What I did exactly?
- I ran an audit to the website
- I analyzed the keywords and split it in 3 parts
- On-page SEO
Believe me, I did nothing extra than our regular works like GBP posts, citations, off-page silo strategy, etc.
Let me explain, the 3 items that I paid more attention to and got a significant result.
Website Audit: Everytime, we start working on a new client, we start with an aaudit. As I said, this client working with us for 4 months, so I decided to take another audit. So I did and got some technical errors, 404, some missing titels, some H tags we noticed that we can blend the keywords and take the advantage of it etc. So I confirm that we fixed all the errors and optimize the site as much as possible.
What I discover to their keywords?
I had already a list that was given by my client, they actually wanted to target those keywords. I listed that keyword on a google sheet, and I went to their tracking tool and listed all the keywords that decreased. Then I went to the google search console and pick the keywords that already getting noticed by google orgaanically. I did same with Gooogle business profile, just opened the insights and pick all the organic keywords that already getting noticed by google.
So we have no 3 different types of keywords right?
- Keywords that are given by the client 2. Keywords that decreased 3. Top organic keywords from Google search console and google business profile
The game is here. Look at some keywords you can never rank no matter how hard you try to rank them. Why? Sometimes clients choose the wrong keywords that not matches with the page topic intent. So its very very important that keywords need to be matched with the topic. To research keyword's search intent, you can search with the key phrase and check out google's top results. To better understand, please watch some videos on youtube, because the topic is not a very shortcut.
So I discussed with the client and remove some keywords that we don't want to focus on and waste time on them. Then I went to the list of the existing keywords that decreased choose some specific keywords from there to focus this month.
Then I went to the next list that pick from the google search console and GMB insights. Those all are organic keywords. I so much like these organic keywords.
Why ? Because the keywords showing on your search console dashboard are very targeted and already match with your pages, that's your website organically appearing on the search result for those keywords and it's getting noticed by google.
Another great thing is, that most of these keywords has no Data on the ahrefs, semrush or any tools like that. Why these keywords are special? look you're getting 2000 impression for "X" keyword without spending any effort, now just imagine, if you pay more attention to that "X" keyword it will get more impression and probably starts getting clicks.
I just explained to the client why the organic keywords are best, then the client was so excited to see something great. Then I choose some greate keywords from organic list to focus this month.
Now what I did do exactly?
On-page optimization: Yes, blend those keywords to structure the website (interlinking), use them on the meta titles, descriptions, and h tags, put the keywords on the content. The site has 100+ page, so I just pick some specific pages for this month, and started checking every single page from those specific page list.
Every single page I read and put the keywords where they can be fit. Then used some anchor text to interlinking (not too much). I didn't recommend pushing the keywords by force, it's spammy, use the keywords and make sure it looks natural.
Then I created some videos and uploaded them on youtube and optimized the video properly to take full advantage.
Yes, still we have some great off-page strategy, but I don't believe without a massive work on the on-page and keywords, it's gonna help.
Then I just wait a few days and starts showing great movements though. finally, when I delivered the full reports to the client, I feel that I delighted the client.
After first couple of months, the client gave 3 of their business as a reward for good work. Then today they promised to go for a big deal with more business they belong to.
I just shared this story to explain the importance of on-page optimization. I know a lot of people these days handling their clients, but really they don't care much about on-page optimization.
