Defer Google Analytics 4 instead of Async?

The default tag code for GA4 loads the script with async, but Google PageSpeed test recommends deferring it. Having tested it out (just changed 'async' to 'defer'), it shaved an entire second off the First Content Paint.

Are there any negatives to doing so? Obviously faster page loads will help organic rankings to some degree, but will this potentially result in missed events?
