Content Silo - Top category pages seem stuck in "omitted results"

I have a website which had the following structure:

HOME -> PRODUCTS - this displayed the first page of products

There were some filters you could use, none of them were links

The sitemap contained links to orphan pages, like '/buy-a-guitar', which would take the user to a product search page which would show guitars.

And more specific pages too like '/buy-a-red-guitar', which you can imagine would take them to a product search page showing red guitars.

The site was run like that for around a year, with no internal links to these ophan pages (even though we were getting lots of traffic to those pages).

We realised the CTR was poor and Google had no idea which of these pages were more important. You would type in "buy a guitar" and the "/buy-a-red-guitar" page was suggested, obviously not relevant for someone who wanted a different colour of guitar. So we decided on a Content Silo etc and put in appropriate links around 10 days ago, in the form of breadcrumbs. i.e. links going up the silo. We haven't yet made any links going down the silo, but we'll be doing that soon.

Google has picked up quite a few of these internal links already and it knows '/buy-a-guitar' has a lot more links pointing to it than '/buy-a-red-guitar', but it's still showing the overly specific results. A site:domain.com "buy a guitar" search brings back the /buy-a-red-guitar page (the one we don't want), and hundreds of other results. And at the end when we click show omitted results, BAM! the "/buy-a-guitar" is right there on the first page and it's being omitted.

Will this problem solve as we add more internal links and Google realises that the "/buy-a-guitar" page is more important than "/buy-a-red-guitar"? Or do we need to do some other things too? Or are we "stuffed" now that Google seems to have made up its mind about the buy-a-guitar page being duplicate content?
