Activate domain to start the clock?

I own a domain name that I plan to develop into a niche blog (who doesn’t?). Since the age of a site is an SEO ranking factor, does it make sense to stand up a simple web-site with minimal content to start the “age of the site” clock?

The downside is I’ll have to pay hosting costs. But, I envision using a low cost host while it’s parked and switching to a better service once I actually start the initiative.
