Is a redirect from our .ie to .co.uk URL making the most of Irish search opportunity?
Our business is based in Northern Ireland, and we do a lot of work (circa 50% our revenue) in Republic of Ireland. We have a good website with about 300 pages, that sits on a .co.uk URL. We also own the .ie URL, which simply redirects to our .co.uk site.
My question is - is this redirect the best option? Or is there a better way to use our .ie URL to optimise for Republic of Ireland users to find our website? Such as an alias?
I can’t see any glaring need got the .co.uk and .ie websites to differ in any way - no prices are listed on the website so no need to change £ and €. Also search terms for all our key products look largely similar (healthcare & home adaption industry). But I’m sure duplicating the entire website on both domains would harm SEO?!
I have been doing a lot of SEO work the past few months, and really seen improvements circa 40% increase in GSC. But I feel there is an opportunity to use this .ie domain - I just don’t know what it is! Past 3 months, 11% of our website traffic from Ireland, and 71% from UK (within that - 48% England, 44% NI, 7% Scotland, 2% Wales). Any ideas welcome! Cheers
