Proper Internal Link structure for ecommerce website?

Hello, I run an ecommerce site with multiple niches (sorted into collections) but have never done proper internal linking before.

I'm wondering if this (basic) structure is the way to go:

- In the description of each product, talk a little bit about 1-3 products in the same collection and link to them. Basically, all internal links will be contained inside each collection.

Would this work? And is this even the best way? Thank you in advance.
