Can Entity-based SEO help your blog?

I've been working on a big blog, and I've been trying to collaborate the study of Entity SEO with Blog SEO.

Here are my findings.

To answer the above question we must first take into account how Google identifies an Entity:

"A thing or concept that is singular, unique, well-defined, and distinguishable."

According to this statement from Google's own patent, an Entity must have the following attributes:

  1. Singularity
  2. Uniqueness
  3. Definition
  4. Distinguishability

This basically means that Google picks out the words from a sentence that fit all of the above "must-haves", and uses them to give answers that have a relationship to that Entity.

Coming back to our main question.

Can optimizing your content for Entities help your blog?

In short, the answer is YES.

To support this with a small example, I searched the keyword "japanese" on Google.

Bear in mind that my location is Pakistan specific.

When I search the keyword "japanese", Google does two things.

  1. Give me a list of Japanese restaurants that are close to my area.

  2. Give me a little "See results about" section.

Google is doing this because it's not sure what I'm talking about.

I might be asking about Japanese restaurants or,

I might be talking about the Japanese language.

Even when Google is not sure about what we want, we can see that Google has correctly identified the relationship between the entities "Japan", "Japanese Language" & "Japanese Restaurants".

That's why blog posts should be written in the context of Entities.

After getting the "Search Intent" right, make sure you figure out who the main Entity in your blog post is.

Then write your article mentioning everything that links to that Entity's Google Knowledge Graph.
