How I Landed My First Client

Now before I begin I want to say that this is not a new client, but rather one I have worked with for a little bit of time now. I wasn't going to post this story as I felt as though it goes against what I said in my previous post; however, I got a lot of questions from people just getting started in the SEO industry who were struggling just how I was and wanted me to share my story.

When I first started in SEO I mentioned how much of the work I did was from other agencies outsourcing jobs or individuals projects to me. The way I fell into that was a ton of networking and just sort of losing myself in the SEO community. I joined hundreds of SEO Facebook groups, talked to thousands of different experts, and even tried to helping others when an opportunity presented itself. Eventually I had built a small following of individuals who saw me as someone they could rely on and ask for questions or services if they needed it.

Now they didn't give my first customer, but networking around the community familiarizes me with the process of getting to know people. I then took what I knew about SEO and all the results I had produced for others and went to my local business fair/convention. Often times you'll find hundreds of other small business owners in similar situations as yourself and I took that as an opportunity. I mean small business owners looking to grow sounds like the perfect environment to me. I started to talk and mingle amongst other owners and eventually me and this roofer had really hit it off. Long story short he told me about his business and I explained my process and how it related to what he was doing and he gave me his card. We emailed back and forth for a while until eventually he decided to give it a try for a few months and see how things went. Obviously things went well and that brings us to today and how I landed my first official SEO client. Hope this story wasn't too vague I tried not to write a whole book here.
