What caused loss of traffic?

Hi,

I have an article that over the last month has lost about 80% of its traffic from Google.

I opened up search console to dig deeper, and found that for pretty much all the main keywords this article ranks for, impressions and CTR both dropped significantly, but average position in search remained virtually the same.

In some cases there was a small drop, such as from third to fourth, which could have affected CTR. However, even keywords without this drop saw the drop in CTR and impressions. Plus, none of the drops should have affected what page of search results the article showed up on, so impressions shouldn’t have been affected in the first place.

I checked Google Trends, and there’s no indication that interest in the keywords I looked at has dropped at all recently.

What could be causing this? I’m really confused at the moment.
