Awesome site stats for a site I don't market - plus some random thoughts

So last month, one of my sites had 1.41k clicks from search and 20.8k impressions, I have about 210 backlinks and 62% are dofollow. I have done absolutely nothing to market, promote, or rank my site. This is just a project that I enjoy creating and so I create the content and people just link to it when they find it. It's a big resource site, some pages have 10k links - each page in a document is 1 link.

I'm really curious to see what would happen if I started promoting the site, but it's too controversial to promote across my usual connections.

I keep thinking though, that I can write content specifically FOR my target publishers and then of course, link to those articles. I haven't launched my blog on the site yet, so when that is finished I think that's what I'll do.

Anyway, just wanted to share because it's an example of when you are passionate about your site, you can really make something amazing that people love and link naturally.

Now... I'm also working on launching 4 more websites and the subject matter doesn't allow for such an involved site, so these other sites I will need to market to get even half the stats of this one... it's interesting to see how the subject matter does determine the ability to rank naturally. I can tell you people normally spend hours on my first site. The others? The subject matter doesn't lend itself to long visits.

Now I'm just thinking out loud because when you want to choose a niche, it makes sense to choose something in the intersection of passion and desirability, but also where you can produce endless content and never repeat anything. Like not many niches allow for making a site with tens of thousands of pages where nothing overlaps.
