Which domain would Google like better?

I have two options for a new content site.

Option 1 is a site using the .news extension.

Option 2 is a .com extension that I picked up after doing research on the topic. I noticed on the topics Wikipedia page it linked back to a domain of the first site it knew of that covered this topic. I clicked the like & the domain was expired and for sale cheap. I checked other backlinks foe that domain and there are a couple already established but highest ranked site is Wikipedia.

The question is, would it be easier to try and organically rank the .com domain that at one point was established or do I just start fresh with the .news domain or does it really not make any difference?
