How to create/transition to a more SEO focused role in my company?

I work in marketing within the financial industry and technology (and related positions) seem to often lag behind. We’ve recently updated our website and are moving toward more digital initiatives but the in-house help is thin with the current size of our department.

I’m basically a jack of all trades in my marketing department but would like to specialize more specifically in the digital space. I have basic SEO knowledge but would like to become an expert with better focus. It’s a space with constant change and needs ongoing attention but my company currently treats it as a one and done task annually at most.

A few more questions:

• How can I approach my manager with a solution to being happier in my career while also benefiting the company (propose as a win-win)?

• What other job functions/roles typically become part of the SEO specialist role?

• What area are you from and what does an entry- to mid-level SEO typically earn? (As a negotiation and comparison to my current salary)
