Wondering your opinion for seo best practices for faceted filters on catalogue pages for e-commerce sites.

Right now my filters do not append anything to the url unless you click into a product from a filtered result and then go back a page to the catalogue again. These pages canonical to the main catalogue pages so are not set to rank.

I feel I’m missing out on some keyword benefits like colours and sizes. Would you open up these faceted parts of the page for ranking or just keep everything canonical to the main page ? Also worried about bloating pages and weakening page rank for those catalogue pages.
