Good Keyword Search Volume for New Blog?

Hi everyone,

I just started a brand new blog and want to get really good at SEO. One of the biggest questions I have is about which keywords to go after.

To preface this, I know that long-tail keywords are king. But it seems that many of the long-tail keywords I find tend to be relatively competitive - especially for a new blog.

I have zero domain or page authority - so getting my article to rank high be a bit challenging.

Can someone who has experience with SEO strategy help me understand the best way to get started? Should I write a few articles that get low search volume - between 10-30 searches per month, but that I could potentially really easily own?

Or should I try to go for a little bit more difficult one that maybe I'll rank, maybe I won't?

Any advice would be great.
