Weed Client - KW Choice - Should I Use Weed as a KW?

Title says it all...

I know that Google frowns upon using weed, THC and marijuana in KWs in some instances in the past and I think I remember there was talk about using terms like water pipe, hemp and oils in place of it instead..

But users are clearly writing weed, joints, bongs, THC, nugs, marijuana...

So I may be overthinking it, but I just wanted to ask if there are other SEOs working on weed clients with insights here.
