If I have OG tags, do I still need other meta tags?

It seems that almost every site today has OG tags up to the eyeballs, yet often times the only meta name tag is "description".

I understand that most social sites only take data from the OG tags, so do I still need a meta name ="description" tag and other non-OG tags? If the only description tag is the og:description, do I risk certain sites or search engines not picking up my description?

There are tons of resources out there on og tags and meta tags, but I can't seem to find the answer to this specific question.
