Has anyone ever hired a freelance SEO off of Upwork?

I’m running my wife’s photography business website and we need some help with SEO. I’m a software engineer, so I could understand it, but I simply don’t have time with work and grad school.

Has anyone had luck with freelancers from Upwork? There’s a ton, and I just don’t even know where to start in picking one. I read a post here that a good SEO will give you a full audit up front and with a strong portfolio, but I don’t know more than that.

We don’t really have a budget, but this is our first year seriously pursuing her business and we’ve just launched the website this year.

Anyone have any recommendations of SEO’s they’ve worked with in the past?
