Multiple H1s vs regular text

I'm reviewing a client's website that's build on Podia. It looks like the editor only lets you choose from H1 text or paragraph text. Some of pages have 5+ H1's, and other pages only have one H1– the "headings" (where H2's should be) are regular text.

Is there any difference between using multiple H1s vs using normal text for headings?
