How to obtain more organic backlinks?

Hi, I own a website with a page dedicated to italian weather. I know that to obtains organic backlinks I need exclusive high quality content or service, and buying backlink it wil never be enough to compete with the big guys. I display the weather through html widget from other major forecast websites. I know competition is very high for this niche, but I really like it and want to take a little slice of the pie.

Do you think widgets are not enough to be exclusive service? What can I do to display a more professional and customize weather in order to gain more organic backlinks?
