Computer generated blogs used for building backlinks?

Hello all! I am new (very new) to SEO.

I studied the main websites I found on my niche, and I want to reach a good position on Google. I searched for the backlinks of the first and second website. Both websites have hundreds of backlinks coming from hundreds of "fake" blogspot blogs containing computer-generated content.

What about this seo practice? Is this an usual practice? What should I do in this case? Should I build hundreds of blogs too, as to reach a good position on Google?
