Legal question: A client has a dispute with their co-funder and there might be legal charges, should I still pursue the prospect?
I have a warm lead that has committed to payment but we still haven't signed a contract. Their ex co-founder informed me that they are currently in legal battle and that if I work with them I might be wrangled into the court case and potentially "associated with someone with a criminal record".
I am usually risk averse and would drop this opportunity however:
- I don't see why I would ever be called into the court case
- Assuming that the client hiring me does get a criminal record I don't see how that would affect me
- I am, after a 3 year break, re-opening my marketing agency (Google SEO, Amazon SEO and FBA, web development and FB/IG ads) as money is tight and the overall situation isn't great. Having a win would be huge for me and the people I am collaborating with.
I've tried searching for any legal records that would allow me to see what's going on but had no luck finding anything.
Disclaimer: I realize I can't receive legal advice from strangers online, I'm asking for general thoughts/advice and if you can share any similar experiences.
