Pruning articles and 404ing

Hi all,

So my company uses a SEO agency and we are recently doing a large amount of content marketing work on our blog.

We have around 20-30 blogs that we want to prune and get rid of because they offer no value and our agency said to make sure we move all linking to the pages and just 404 them however this doesn't seem right to me.

We can't really 301 because there's no other articles that really match.

Wanted to get thoughts on this. Should we 404 or something else?
