How to analyze the QUALITY of the backlink profile of my competitors? Is Domain authority a useful metric at all?

I would like to estimate how SEO-viable certain niches are. what really counts for that matter are backlinks. The thing is, all the popular marketing tools out there use the domain authority metric in a biased way

For instance, I know both Semrush and Moz take into account silly backlinks that pass no seo juice to calculate Domain Authority metrics. (Eg: articles from wikipedia, backlinks bought from fiverr, etc).

Where or How could I inspect the quality of the REAL SEO-JUICY backlinks of a domain?

I think that's the only way to really tell the SEO- viability of a niche
