Having trouble figuring it out.

I am a small business owner, trying to figure out SEO for myself. I have multiple social media pages, all with links leading back to my website. I post on them roughly once a week. I was told if I did this, I'd likely be doing more for my SEO than the competition, however my website still doesn't show up after doing this for a few months. I'm obviously a beginner at this and wanted to know if I should be doing anything else
