Is it a problem to delete and resubmit sitemaps with more descriptive names?

I initially named my sitemaps sitemap1, sitemap2, etc. Is there any issue with deleting them and resubmitting with more descriptive names? E.g., sitemap-products, sitemap-resources, etc. Will discovery start from scratch?

Google, if you're listening, please give us the option to rename sitemaps so we don't have to delete and re-upload!
