Internal links step through 301 redirects

There are a bunch of pages on our site that are internally linking to outdated pages that are then redirecting to the new page. Assuming the anchor text intent still matches, is this bad practice? Are there actual SEO benefits from fixing this in terms of potentially seeing increases in traffic? Just trying to understand if this should be a primary priority or a secondary priority. Thanks!
