How important is image name for E-commerce?

Having thousands of variations and uploading images to them on Woocommerce is a lot of work. How important is that the image describes the product instead of random name for SEO? Settings up name and manually having to upload those to variations is a lot of work. If name doesn't matter much I can just copy variations and it becomes way easier job. Do you think it's worth it to have describing image name?
