Using Free PDF Upload Platforms to Boost SEO & Backlinks

Would the following be considered a good way to get some quality backlinks :

​

1. Create full blog post on website
2. Create shortened PDF version of blog post on website and include full link to blog post
3. Upload PDF with links to various sites which allow PDF upload and sharing

​

Would it also help to have certain PDF's uploaded on PDF sharing sites and link to them from the website? Or should PDF's in general be on the website itself, on its own hosting?
