Duplicate content used in multiple articles on same website

So I'm working with an online news publisher, trying to figure out ways to improve their traffic / Google News presence etc etc. I've noticed that they often reuse large chunks of text between articles, so for example if they're writing about the same company a year later, 50-60% of the new article will consist of paragraphs that are word-for-word identical to the previous article on that company.

So it's not plagiarized, as they're just reusing their own content, and the article itself is "new" with new headline and some fresh context in there, paragraphs in different order etc etc. But what impact do you think this practice will have on its Google rankings overall?
