KeywordPlanner - missing search volume

I'm using Google Ads API to get search volume for SEO purpose. But for some keywords, there's no data returned at all. It's strange, because it happens for quite popular keywords, although some topics (like health conditions) are missing more often.

for example: 'alcohol' (ENG) or 'kot' (polish word for 'cat', results for dog are ok).

Did you guys also have this issue? how do you cope with it, maybe you use some alternatives?
