is it bad to index categories on an image focused wp blog?

when i search by image for my own images - the ones that show up on google are in the category archive so the body text related to the image doesn't show correctly. is it a bad idea to noindex my category archives and force google to index only post pages so that the paragraph of text related to the images can be associated with the correct image?
