Consistently outranked by worse content

Since the May 2020 update, Google really doesn't trust me.

Many of my high-ranking keywords were replaced by articles that have outright incorrect or even useless information.

But the sites have authority and cram a lot of re-worded information from wikis.

Obviously, it's not Google's fault, they trust the authoritative sites more and don't know if the information is correct or not.

It seems whenever I find a good new keyword and write a post, a month later my main competitor posts the same thing, barely strung together content, and takes over rankings :(

Is just me running my site and it seems there's nothing I can do.

Any advice for what I can do? is it time to give up and move on to new pastures?
