Localized versions of my site aren't discoverable

I recently localized my site and translated it into german and french. I added the hreflang tags to the head pointing to the other versions of the site (/:lang) as well as the x-default version.

I also updated the sitemap to include <xhtml:link> to the other pages (nested under <url>)

If I google site:MY_SITE_URL, the german and french versions also show up, meaning that they have been crawled. However, if I look up milan ferus comelo, only the english version shows up.

Why is this happening?
