December Algo Update Still Hurting, Help :(

Hi everyone, my site was going pretty well for a humble 1-man-band like myself, i was content with it, then judgment day arrived on December 5th and just absolutely tanked my site. By 90%.

( I grew it from 0 to 40k organic on ahrefs stats from 2019 to today, receiving a whack in December sending it down to 2k from 40k)

We've always had minor fluctuations when algo updates came, up/down 20-30% i can handle. But 90% is insane. But not only this, it wasn't just certain articles, i have 200 articles and it was literally all of them.

I've always tried to be white hat in my approach too. My competitors have all seemed to survive this, and not to blow my own trumpet, but i definitely felt we were stronger, with better metrics and content etc ( i know everyone says this).

Since the update we have been updating content, trying to find ways to improve the site, more interactive things like graphs, better site menus etc.

Today is the first day since the crash that i feel i need to reach out, I'm feel totally lost, its been a few months now and there is no signs of recovery, just more dreaded downward red arrows on AHREFS saying we are losing more and more rankings.

How does one come back from this? I'm not so sure even where to start to improve it, as i cant understand why i received such a vicious punishment.

What are the common reasons for this happening to site?

I put my heart and soul into this site for a few years now, i don't want to give up, but this is not helping my motivation at all.

Any sound, actionable advice would be REALLY appreciated.
