Building links for an SEO website - advice?

I recently started doing link building for an SEO firm.

I've done link building in several niches with pretty good success, but it seems more difficult doing SEO for an SEO.

I feel like the pitches and strategy needs to be different here, since most people that you are pitching to actually understand what you are doing and why you are doing it.

Anyone have advice for building links specifically for an SEO client? Does it differ or do I need to quit my pity party and just stick to the fundamentals?
