Linking to competitors site from your own - ever a good idea?

So I have a bunch of competitors (niche software) and I know a LOT about them because I was an absolutely obsessive user, then built my own tool as none of them worked how I wanted, which made me research a lot more, and so forth.

I want to do an article on my site that is basically a comparison between say the top 5 options - obviously mine would be in there. But is this a terrible idea? I would be trying to rank for 'best xyz software' (SemRush shows KD at 35 for this), as well as showing what unique features my own product has.

Is this a terrible idea? I saw one of my newer competitors do this already, but I could do it better. Just don't know if it's a good idea or a bad one.

For the record my product isn't out yet (this year), I'm just getting website and ducks in order right now and this came up as an idea to use at some point.
