A quick question about WordPress categories

Hi everyone.

My question is regarding categories in WordPress.
Will google understand that a post belongs to a parent category, even when it's not added to that category?

Ex: I can have a parent category of cars and a sub-category of Ford. If I put a new post under the Ford category, will google still understand it belongs to the cars category, even without me adding it to the parent category?

Because I want all posts visibly labeled as sub-categories, but when I select the sub-category as primarily in the post setting, my theme still shows the parent category. And I didn't find a way to change it in the customization setting. But I can select only the sub-category which works how I want it to.
