Client got a custom coded site from me and now ranks #3 for keywords. Whats the best way to reach #1?

Im a web dev that builds custom coded sites. I only have one client now (marketing & site from start to finish) since im busy with other current work with an agency.

Anyway, I’m pretty familiar with SEO. Not the most expert but im happy to say that my client now ranks way better compared to his old WP site. Took about 10 months to get from 10th page to #3 spot.

He only ranks below 2 other sites for his targeted keywords. And those sites are pretty much blogs. “Best 10 places to eat in blah” kinda sites.

We have alot of content and score perfectly on lighthouse but I would like to get advice on how to beat those top 2 sites. TIA
