Most productive unskilled SEO task

I need some recommendations please, been out of the SEO game for a while...

I have friend out of work who needs some income and has lots of free time. I would like to help them and myself by having them work on SEO tasks for a new site.

They have zero digital marketing or SEO knowledge but they are generally IT and internet literate and efficient.

What would be the most useful or effective SEO related (ideally link building) task I could give them that was not overly technical, didn't require special SEO skills or beyond basic writing skills or involve sensitive outreach and communication with other people.

To reframe, what is the most productive SEO work you would give an unskilled VA to slowly start ranking a new site over time.

Ideally also nothing that could be easily and cheaply automated so I wouldn't feel like im wasting money by having it done manually.
