I am trying to get my business up-to-date with SEO. It's a small in the making record label.

I've tried going to large competitors and realize they have no meta keywords and barely a description, I assume cause they are so large they end up at the top for people naturally looking for them.

So I went to look at smaller labels and even publications with news on them and I realize they don't even have meta keywords!

I wonder if for my field meta keywords and meta descriptions are not a large factor since most of these companies are focused on getting their clicks from social media and less from google searches?
