Sometimes It's Who You Know Rather Than What You Know... How I Started Making Money In SEO
When I first started in SEO I didn't have much experience and often times when applying for local SEO jobs many companies would turn me away for that exact reason. It was a little frustrating as the only way to gain experience was through working at a company, and companies didn't want to hire you as they felt you needed experience. It was almost as if I was stuck in an infinite loop and the SEO world just wanted to keep me away; however, I decided if nobody wanted to offer me experience I would instead go out and create opportunities for myself and start my own business.
At the time I wasn't an LLC or an official business, and I wouldn't even be able to tell you where to even begin; however, I decided to completely submerge myself in the SEO world and network with as many groups and professionals as I could. Overtime we began to build relationships and they would start to send me small jobs in order to help me get by. I ended doing those small task like link building, internal SEO fixes, and even just fixing broken citations. After about a year of doing these jobs I decided it was time to start my own SEO agency and help clients grow their businesses.
I now currently run a somewhat successful small SEO business as I work with a few small service businesses that have been happy with the results they've gotten with some ranking on the first page and others on their way to doing so. I love my job and what I do everyday but the reason for this post is that I never forgot all those other agencies who helped me get started and if there's anyone out there on the fence or struggling with their SEO business just know that opportunities are out there and you just have to keep pushing and networking with others as they too experienced that pain of starting a business, and sometimes you'll be doing small things and that's okay because it's all apart of the bigger picture.
