How do CMS manage and optimize SEO across sever thousand pieces of content?

Hi all,

I'm trying to do some research on a project I am working on and am hoping I can get pointed in the right direction here. I work on a CMS product as a researcher, and this product is used to write and publish content. We have several teams representing different areas of the company, and each team writes and produces content for their respective areas on a daily basis. Across those teams, in aggregate, this CMS manages thousands of pieces of content.

SEO is managed on a per content level, meaning that the writers or their managers go into each individual piece of content and map SEO keywords to that specific content. This can be problematic because one team could have a lot of keywords that are already used in a similar fashion with another team, and they would have no idea of the overlap. So we have many instances of customers searching for a specific topic, but landing on the wrong piece of content.

We are trying to figure out how to solve this SEO problem. Many articles I find online are about optimizing SEO for a specific niche or company, but our problem is a big broader since the various areas of our company are all completely different from one another, yet have similar subjects to which content needs to be produced.

Questions:

Are there any tools out there that currently solve this problem of managing SEO keyword overlap across thousands of pieces of content and several teams?

Do you know of any company that successfully manages something like this?

Anything would be helpful and insightful here. Thank you all so much!
