eCommerce SEO Best Practice

Hi guys, we are in the process of building an eCommerce store on the Wordpress/Woo platform.

Our current product page displays relevant product atrritubtes, shipping/return policy, etc. It also features a short ~50 word product description optimized for that specific product. If we have a standard meta title set with the product name, does it make sense to just let Google generate our meta description?

Of course I know having an optimized title and description is best practice, but for some reason I feel as though having Google generate the meta in this instance is a viable option.

What do you guys think?
