Tech Audit Recommendation: All URLs have index.php

Hey everyone, I have a tech SEO question I was hoping I could get your help with. I'm currently doing a tech audit for a fairly small website where all the pages have an index.php segment in the URL. The website is built in WordPress if this info helps.

Does the index.php have any SEO implications and should I recommend 301 redirects from the index.php URLs to new ones without this segment?
