Is it always like this?
Hi all! I’m seeking some advice to see what my next step should be.
I have multiple internships in nonprofits, film, and writing content. I have a dual bachelors in Linguistics and Writing. I’m fresh out of school (December 2020). I am in my first digital marketing agency position for a start up company. That is a restructured version of an old company. I came in at a toxic time as the manager I started under was moved to a worker position, and then made my direct coworker after refusing to train me. He now withholds access to everything, the company had to force him to share GMB log in access, SEMrush access etc.
Now we have “client lists” as the company has decided we are to manage 35 clients each for all Tech SEO, Keyword management, blog posts, Google posts, and web content along with some paid ad content.
I’m going to admit that it feels like a lot, I feel like I’m drowning. I’ve been here 3 months, am being paid less than the average wage for my state for entry level SEO, and am being told to “stay patient” as the company takes off. They’re not actively hiring outside of the 3 of us, and new contracts are being signed everyday. I’m getting 3 new clients next week. Outside of SEMrush and Hubspot, I’m not receiving any formal training, but am expected to know how to run audits, disavow backlinks, add code to redirect Google post cannibalization, etc. I’m a self starter, so I’m doing it, but the stress level never ends, we have no HR team, and I feel underpaid.
Is this normal for this field? I am highly interested in it, and am looking at UX/UI degrees with marketing emphasis. I feel this pathway is a great start for it. This being said, the environment isn’t jiving with me. I’m trying to decide if it’s the field, or me.
Help please?
