Should I Move Content to a Different URL?
I have a web page that I use to advertise my mobile DJ business. Last year, I counted down my favorite songs in daily posts, starting with my 366th-most-favorite song on January 1st, and finishing with my favorite song of all time on December 31st. At the time, it seemed like something that belonged on my site, and I placed a link to the countdown on the page where I share playlists from past events I've DJ'ed, along with links to MixCloud where potential clients can hear samples of my mixing.
The issue I'm having is that now most of my Google search traffic seems to be coming from people searching for lyrics or information about various songs in my countdown, and I worry that Google is less likely to show me to people searching for a DJ to hire for their wedding or party. According to Google Analytics, 61% of visitors to my site landed on a page about the song "Luna Mezzo Mare," 24% on other songs, and only 15% of visitors landed on a page relevant to my DJ business.
I've tried researching how Google directs traffic, but I am finding contradictory information. What most people seem to say is that if, for example, 100 people a day go to your site to find "best chicken recipe" then Google will only show your site to people searching for chicken recipes, even if the main purpose of your site is something else, say baseball statistics.
I'm worried that over time, Google is going to pigeonhole my site as being about songs & lyrics, and never show it in a search for wedding DJs.
My solution is to migrate the 366 posts to a different url. I'll still have a link on my business site, and it will send anyone who wants to see the countdown posts to my other page.
Does this seem like the right thing to do?
