Way too many homepage visits according to Google Analytics

Has anyone else recently noticed a huge number of homepage visits in Google Analytics? For sites that normally don't get many?

My site never gets many homepage visits yet now GA is reporting thousands and putting it among my top 5-10 URLs for total visits.

Unless it's ALL bot traffic, it just isn't even remotely plausible.

Is anyone else seeing an issue like this? Or any idea what could be happening?

It's just a blog/content site. Very little reason for the average reader to visit homepage, which is why for the entire life of the site, the homepage has never been a top URL.
